I never thought of Emily as a villain.

I re-watched the original this week and it struck me that Emily may have been a little frosty to Andy, but she never set her up to fail ever.

She wrote a book about us and you're worse than me hilarious

I can totally see a Canadian girl from an average background getting madly upset that this Ivy grad who doesn’t want her dream job (but still took it) is sitting typing away at some book lol

“You need to make my assistant stop crying” that’s so funny

An extremely competent Canadian’s frustration with a duplicitous temp makes so much more sense

I love how she stands by her convictions. It was a job and anyone would get frustrated carrying your load and said coworker who’s writing a book about how “terrible their experience is going.” Like do you not have bills to pay also

I must say this I’m actually surprised this got the green light by Vogue. It’s much more candid and seems less biased than the last interview with Anna’s more recent assistants

To be fair, we all absolutely love the Emily character. Clearly the actual “Andie” girl can write & the movie became legendary.

it’s just basically a woman who really, really likes her job vs. a woman who takes the job because she thinks that this will open doors for her.

I read the book before watching the movie and it was so interesting to me how they made the protagonists character played by Anne Hathaway much more likable in the movie. So many of her problems were self inflicted in the book. She was a heavy smoker and kept ruining the free clothes she was given with cigarette burns and ash. She kept getting caught up and behind with allowing these strange dance rituals with the door man. And yes you definitely did get the feeling she felt that so much of what she was given to do at her job was beneath her. I think that’s why the adapted screenplay won so many awards was because the writer made Andy’s character so much more likable.

Honestly I’m surprised she had such negative feelings towards the character, to me it was very clear and understandable from the get go that Emily’s snark was just impatience, frustration and shock over Andy’s cavalier attitude.

Emily is not even the worst character to be an inspiration for. She's really cool in the movie, so I would wear this like a badge of honour.
